Segel-Club Breitbrunn-Chiemsee (SCBC) e.V.
The Segel-Club Breitbrunn-Chiemsee (SCBC) e.V. is a sailing club founded in 1978 at the municipal harbour of Breitbrunn on Lake Chiemsee in Mühlner Bay. The clubhouse sits directly at the harbour and features a lounge seating up to 40 people, kitchen, sail storage, youth area, office, toilets, showers and a sun terrace overlooking the harbour, Herreninsel and the Alps. The club fleet includes Optimists, ILCA, 420, 470 and Kielzugvogel dinghies, plus Delphia 24 Sport boats and motor and RIB support craft for training and racing. Award-winning youth work with Wednesday training, youth weeks and taster sessions, as well as Friday training and adult sailing days, define the programme. Regular evening regattas, the Optimus Cup and the 3-Bays cruise form the sporting calendar; licences are offered via partner Chiemsee Sailingcenter.
History
After the newly built municipal sailing harbour of Breitbrunn opened in Mühlner Bay in 1972, berth holders formed a loose interest group for racing. An initiator group around Eugen Spindler, Heinrich Schmidt, Alfred Wirsing, Josef Resch and Willi Büchler convened the founding assembly of a sailing club on 15 July 1978 at the inn „Zur Post“ in Breitbrunn. Deliberately omitting „Yacht“ from the name so dinghy sailors would feel at home, the club was first called „Segelclub Breitbrunn (SCB)“ and later „Segel-Club Breitbrunn-Chiemsee (SCBC)“. In August 1978, thanks to a donation by Willi Meier, the club acquired its first Optimist „Alexander“ and started youth training on 12 August 1978. The first harbour festival was held on 21 July 1979 with the water rescue service Breitbrunn/Höslwang. In 1985 Josef Resch became H-Boot world champion under the Danish flag on Lake Attersee. In 1988 a construction trailer from Hans Jell served as a provisional clubhouse. In 1991 Anneliese Lange and Wolfgang Reger ran Optimist training weeks and weekly youth coaching. Construction of the clubhouse began in early May 1995; the topping-out ceremony was on 3 July 1995. Continuous youth training has long been a priority; the Bavarian Sailing Association awarded the club the youth promotion prize in 2012, 2024 and 2025. In 2026 the club celebrated its 48th anniversary; preparations for the 50th anniversary are already underway.
