Segel Club Baldeneysee e. V.
Segel Club Baldeneysee e.V. is a sailing club on Lake Baldeneysee in Essen. The club promotes sailing, runs an active youth programme and offers training for sport boat licences (inland, coastal and sea) and radio certificates – also for non-members. Members can use various club boats free of charge; the club's home waters are Lake Baldeneysee. The club fosters a varied social life with sailors' meetings, season opening and closing events and gatherings at the boathouse.
History
In 1969, a group of water sports enthusiasts founded the Segelkameradschaft in den Höfen (SIDH). With the developed club grounds, another sailing club emerged on Lake Baldeneysee. In neighbouring Heiligenhaus, the Christliche Pfadfinderschaft Heiligenhaus was founded in 1949. Years later it became the Judo und Segel Club Heiligenhaus (JSC), whose sailing section was also based on the south shore of Lake Baldeneysee. At a joint summer festival in 2010, serious consideration was given to merging both clubs. In April 2013, SIDH and JSC were dissolved and Segel Club Baldeneysee e.V. was founded. Today the SCB is dedicated to sailing, youth work and training in sailing, safety and radio. Members have access to various club-owned boats. Beyond water sports, the club maintains a friendly community with winter lectures on sea voyages and safety at sea, and visits to companies related to water and boats. In recent years some members have taken up cruising and sail on well-known international waters.
