Segelclub Woffelsbach-Rursee e.V. (SCW-R) is a small, family-friendly sailing club on Lake Rursee in the Eifel. The club grounds lie on the northern shore of Woffelsbach Bay in Woffelsbach near Simmerath, about 30 km southeast of Aachen. Three large pier facilities provide berths for 74 boats, complemented by dry storage for numerous dinghies. The youth section has eight Optimists and three Pirate dinghies for training and racing. Founded in 1962, the club offers an active community life with a season opening race, club regatta, summer festival and the Dyas summer regatta, and welcomes newcomers to sailing.
History
Segelclub Woffelsbach-Rursee e.V. (SCW-R) was founded in 1962 and has since been a sociable and sportingly active sailing club on Lake Rursee in the Eifel. The club grounds are on the northern shore of Woffelsbach Bay and offer a fine view of the water. Woffelsbach belongs to the Simmerath district and lies about 30 km southeast of Aachen and about 75 km southwest of Cologne. The club is known for an intensive club life and aims to open sailing to anyone interested while giving sailing enthusiasts a sociable and sporting home. Today SCW-R provides berths for 74 boats at three large pier facilities as well as dry storage for numerous dinghies. The youth section currently provides eight Optimists for beginners and three Pirate dinghies for active juniors, also used in racing. The club is a member of the German Sailing Federation (DSV register no. NW 065) and hosts annual events such as the season opening race, club regatta with summer festival, and the Dyas summer regatta.
