SC Turbine Bleiloch e.V.
Segelclub Turbine Bleiloch has united an active sailing community in the Saale-Orla district and surrounding regions for many years. On Germany's largest reservoir, the Bleiloch dam, the club offers training, regattas and cruising for sailors of all ages.
History
Segelclub Turbine Bleiloch was founded on 11 October 1951 as a works sports association of the Bleiloch pumped-storage power plant by six enthusiasts who wanted to establish sailing on the reservoir. Membership grew from over 50 in 1958 to triple digits in 1962, peaked at 260 active sailors in 1981, fell to 160 in the 1990s, and now stands at 275. The fleet evolved from an initial jollenkreuzer and several Pirats to 21 sailing boats plus ice sailors and motorboats in the 1960s; in 1965 one Pirat, two Cadets and seven Optimists were added. In 1970 many sailors switched from Pirat to 420er. By 1986 the club owned 26 boats and members had 96 private boats. After reunification the first new Optimist was purchased in 1998 with state sports funding, followed by a 420er in 2000. The Optimist and 420er fleets are competitive for regattas. A club-owned J/70 acquired in 2023, sailed with a crew of four, marks a new chapter. Sporting highlights include the first regattas in 1953, 8–10 annual regattas 1954–1960, second place at the 1962 DDR championships, the 1969 Blaues Band with 105 boats, surfing from 1975, the 1980 Blaues Band with 154 starters, DDR championship medals in 420er and Yoxy, repeated Vogtland Cup and Blaues Band Hohenwarte wins, and 2023 Holzbootregatta Schwerin success in Pirat. Finn-Dinghy sailors were successful in the 1980s. After 1990 Dr Reiner Pommer restructured training; Olaf Kaiser and Daniel Ortwig now run successful youth programmes in Optimist and 420er. Annual training camps and year-round weekly training are offered. Facilities include bootshouses built in 1985, sanitary facilities since 1996 and 2014, a planned swimming jetty, and a LEADER-funded youth boathouse rebuild approved in July 2025.
