Segelclub Undine e.V.
Segelclub Undine e.V. is an independent sailing club with roots in Offenbach am Main; its grounds lie directly beside the Carl-Ulrich Bridge on the northern bank of the River Main, on Frankfurt territory. Besides a clubhouse with a small kitchen there are four jetties with water berths for keelboats and land berths for dinghies and trailer boats; boats can be launched by crane up to about 1,450 kg or via a slipway. An active youth group sails competitively in Optimist, ILCA and 420, with experienced coaches teaching basics and accompanying juniors to regattas across Germany. The annual programme includes the boat christening, the Offenbach city championship alternating with the Offenbach rowing club, the MaaCup regatta in early September, and the season-end sail and club honour evening in November.
History
Segelclub Undine was founded in 1969 as an independent association after previously being a section of the Offenbach Rowing Society Undine (ORU). Since then the club grounds at the Carl-Ulrich Bridge on the northern Main bank have been its sporting home; sailing takes place mainly on the Main stretch up to the Kaiserlei Bridge, where club regattas are also held. Over the decades infrastructure with clubhouse, several jetties, water and land berths, crane and slipway was established. Youth development has a long tradition: successive generations of strong sailors emerged from the children's and youth section, also competing nationally and internationally. Today members maintain the grounds themselves through obligatory work hours; the site is used in season from April to October. Regular highlights such as boat christening, city championship, MaaCup and season-end sail continue to shape the club year.
