History
Segel-Club Saar e.V. was founded on 29 November 1963 in Bexbach/Saar and has been a member of the German Sailing Association (register no. S 001) since 1964. In 1966 the club acquired its own grounds on the Etang des Marais in Rémering-lès-Puttelange, France, directly adjacent to the Capfun leisure site with direct access to the 56-hectare lake. From 1967 the club was established in Rémering with the support of Mayor L. Karp; his successor R. Kopp supported the development of the Centre de Plein Air, which grew to over 600 pitches by 2008. The jetty was renewed in 2005. For nearly 60 years the club has fostered Franco-German friendship, paid the municipality between 5,000 and 8,000 euros in fees annually and invested heavily in developing and maintaining the site. In the first week of 2021 the club received municipal Arrêté No. 43/2020 banning all nautical activities on the Etang des Marais from 1 January 2021 – although in August 2020 a renovation of the slipway after the 2020 season had still been promised. On 29 December 2020 came a formal request to dismantle the storage hut and jetty; on 21 July 2021 a final notice. On Rose Monday 12 February 2024 the municipality demolished shore structures approved since 1966 and the jetty renewed in 2005. The club has since contested these measures before the administrative courts in Strasbourg and Nancy and before the Court of Cassation in Paris; the outcome was still pending as of October 2025. Despite the ban on sailing on its home waters, members use alternative areas at Bostalsee, Grand Étang de Mittersheim, Étang du Stock and Lac de la Mutche. SC-Saar formerly organised regattas and day sailing on the Etang des Marais, continues to run youth camps, taster sailing and club festivals and provides a club Conger for member hire at Bostalsee.
