Segel-Club Freiheit Langscheid e.V.
Segel-Club Freiheit Langscheid e.V. (SCFL) is the sailing club on Lake Sorpesee in Langscheid near Sundern, combining leisure and racing sailing in a relaxed club community directly on the water next to Langscheid lido. The self-built clubhouse with boat garage, workshop and club room, plus the new pontoon since 2022 with 22 berthing boxes and a distinctive head pontoon, form the hub of active sailing. From Optimist juniors and J/70 regatta teams to relaxed Sunday sailing, the club covers keelboat, dinghy and gennaker sailing; club boats such as Optis, 420s, ILCA and a J/70 are available to members. Young sailors learn at the summer camp and in training with the youth officer; experienced sailors compete at local Sorpesee regattas and international events. The club, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2024, hosts regattas in rotation and promotes family-friendly water sports through its sustainability concept and LEADER projects.
History
Segel-Club Freiheit Langscheid e.V. (SCFL) celebrated its 50th anniversary on 24 August 2024 and has been active on Lake Sorpesee in Langscheid, a district of Sundern in the Hochsauerland region, since around 1974. Between 1997 and 1999 the club built its clubhouse on its own; it offers spacious attic storage for sailing gear, a boat garage with adjoining workshop, a large club room, kitchen and sanitary facilities. Joachim Dahl shaped the club for 27 years as chairman until he stepped down in March 2026; Christian Gerstberger took over leadership. A central milestone was the new pontoon: the more than 35-year-old structure with irreparably corroded floats was dismantled after the 2021 season, the head section retained, and a new pontoon with 22 boxes erected within five days from 2022. The official inauguration took place on 13 August 2022. Funding was supported by a successful crowdfunding campaign (5,402.25 euros) and support from the DOSB. Since the 2022 season members have had the modern facility with its large head pontoon as a meeting point in the bay. Since March 2025 the club has sailed a new J/70 as its club boat, replacing a Varianta used for many years and offering space for up to six adults for sporty and social sailing. SCFL is part of the Sorpesee regatta community, hosts regattas such as the Blaues Band or the 4h regatta in rotation with other clubs, and competes in classes from 505, ILCA and OK dinghy to J/70, J/80, Musto-Skiff and 49er. Christian Gerstberger competed at the 2025 OK Dinghy World Championship on Lake Garda. The club's sustainability concept was awarded the Great Star of Sport in bronze in 2021. Juniors benefit from six Optimists, two ILCA dinghies and one 420, plus an annual sailing training camp in the summer holidays; a LEADER project also lets non-members try sailing on Lake Sorpesee.
