Segel-Club Vierlande e.V.

Segel-Club Vierlande e.V. (SC4) is a Hamburg sailing club with around 250 members and two sailing areas in the Vierlande and Marschlande districts. At Lake Oortkaten (Hohendeicher See), Optimist and dinghy groups train on a beginner-friendly bathing lake with clubhouse, jetties, beach and beach volleyball court. On the Upper Elbe in Oortkaten harbour there are about 60 yacht berths with the clubhouse Hus in Luv, a crane and the club Zugvogel Merlin. The club promotes juniors from about age six, hosts the major Optimist regattas Oortkaten Auftakt and Vierlanden Cup, and is a member of HSV, DSV and the Hamburg Sports Association. With Wednesday sailing, Friday regattas, JoKat and pleasure craft licence courses it offers a varied programme for beginners and racing sailors.

History

Segel-Club Vierlande e.V. (SC4) was founded in 1969 and has since been based in Hamburg’s Vierlande and Marschlande. The club developed two distinct sections: Lake at Hohendeicher See (Oortkatensee) for Optimists and dinghies, and Elbe at Oortkaten harbour on the Upper Elbe for yachts. Over the decades SC4 built a strong youth and racing culture and became host of the Optimist regattas Oortkaten Auftakt and Vierlanden Cup, among Hamburg’s largest Optimist events with regularly over 100 boats. Membership of the Hamburg Sailing Association, the German Sailing Association and the Hamburg Sports Federation allows members to sail ranking regattas. On the Elbe the club’s Pokalregatta is part of the Oberelbecup with Yachtclub Bullenhausen, Bootsclub Oberelbe and Bootsclub Drage. Weekly Wednesday sailing with YCB was established in parallel. In 2021 a new club website went live after Günter Weintraut had long managed the online presence. In 2022 the Elbe section received a new jetty of four concrete pontoons, and Optimist regattas resumed after the pandemic pause. Today the club has about 250 members, runs clubhouse and jetties at the lake and the small clubhouse Hus in Luv on the Elbe, and keeps sailing open for juniors and adults with club boats such as Zugvogel Merlin plus Optimist, Laser, Pirate and 420 fleets.
