Segel- und Bootsbauclub Chemnitz e.V.
The Segel- und Bootsbauclub Chemnitz e.V. (SBC) is a non-profit water sports club based at the Trockendock site in Chemnitz-Gablenz at Hochrain 30. The club combines sailing, boat building and extensive training – from inland, sea and sailing boat licences to radio certificates and distress signal equipment. The fleet includes ZK10 racing cutters, Ixylon YX dinghies, Optimists and a 420 dinghy currently under construction. Regular club days, sailing trips, working parties and regatta participation – including becoming Saxon champion in cutter sailing multi-event competition in 2012 – shape club life. The club welcomes active members and offers hands-on experience at a low membership rate in the Saxony region.
History
The Segel- und Bootsbauclub Chemnitz e.V. celebrated its 28th anniversary in October 2026. The event archive documents, among other things, the commissioning of the new engine for the training boat in March 2011 and working parties to complete the roof renovation of the large boathouse. Regular autumn sailing trips and Baltic Sea trips are part of club life; Steffen Kuhn, for example, prepared the 2011 Baltic Sea trip. In 2012 the SBC team became Saxon champion in cutter sailing multi-event competition; the same year saw the October regatta in Bautzen with 16 cutters. In 2013 the club competed as defending champion at the Saxon championships. The SBC is registered in Chemnitz under VR 1677 and operates its base at Trockendock Chemnitz with clubhouse, training rooms and boathouse. All club activities are carried out voluntarily by members in their spare time.
