Sarpsborg Seilforening
Sarpsborg Seilforening is a long-established sailing club in Løkkevika near Sarpsborg on the Skjebergkilen fjord, founded in 1939. The club operates two marina facilities with around 100 berths between Bussevika and Knarrvika, the Seilerhytta clubhouse and a column crane for boat handling. The sporting programme covers cruising, fleet racing, offshore, team and para sailing with Optimist dinghies, ILCA boats and keelboats. Weekly Wednesday regattas, ILCA Master training on Mondays from 18:00 and Sjøcamp summer camps for young sailors shape club life. The association aims to be the natural choice for children and adults in Sarpsborg and the surrounding area who want to enjoy sailing as sport and recreation.
History
Sarpsborg Seilforening was founded in 1939. In 1989 the club celebrated its 50th anniversary; a project group comprising Arne Walberg, Aage Gade Sørensen, Per Egil Werner Andersen and Lars Borgaas then produced a book about the first 50 years, with Lars Borgaas taking main responsibility and writing most chapters. Arne Walberg was still an active sailor in the Wednesday regattas in 2019. The club history on the website is divided into several periods: from foundation to 1940, 1940 to 1954, 1954 to 1969, 1970 to 1983, 1983 to 1989 and 1990 to 1999. A small number of copies of the original hardcover book remain in club ownership; interested readers may contact the treasurer. Over the decades the club developed into a hub for recreational and regatta sailing in the Sarpsborg and Skjebergkilen region.
