Klub żeglarski Santa Maria
Klub żeglarski Santa Maria is a sailing section of the Warsaw Catholic Intelligentsia Club (KIK) and has been organising unique sailing camps for children and young people in Poland for more than 50 years. The club base is in Wolica on Lake Zegrze, where club yachts are kept and meetings are held during the season; outside the sailing season the club meets at the KIK headquarters in Warsaw's Old Town. The annual programme includes stationary beginner camps „Pierwsze Halsy“ on Optimists for ages 7 to 11, as well as cruising camps for ages 12 to 18 on the Great Masurian Lakes. A dedicated sailing school prepares young people aged 15 to 18 for the Polish yacht sailor certificate with a final examination. Around 200 participants take part in the camps each season, supported by a repair workshop in Warsaw and club-owned yachts on Lake Zegrze.
History
Klub żeglarski Santa Maria is a sailing section of the Warsaw Catholic Intelligentsia Club (KIK). For more than 50 years, organising sailing camps for children and young people has been the club's main activity. In recent years around 200 participants have taken part annually. The club operates several locations: the KIK headquarters at ul. Freta 20/24a in Warsaw for off-season meetings, a repair workshop at ul. Krakowiaków 80/89 in Warsaw where most club yachts are overhauled, and the club base in Wolica at ul. Mazowiecka 233a in Stare Załubice on Lake Zegrze, where meetings are held in season and boats are kept. The programme includes stationary beginner camps „Pierwsze Halsy“ for ages 7 to 11 with Optimist training, cruising trips for ages 12 to 14 and 15 to 18 on the Great Masurian Lakes, and the „Szkółka“ sailing school preparing for the Polish yacht sailor patent with a final exam. Recently club-owned Omega yachts have been made available in Wolica for the post-season on Lake Zegrze. The club is funded among other things through donations, volunteer work and the 1.5% tax designation (KRS 0000034785).
