Säffle Segelklubb

Säffle Segelklubb (SSK) has been a non-profit club for boating enthusiasts since 1952, primarily in the Säffle municipality in Värmland, Sweden. Members also use the club island Sandön with ample dock space, a barbecue area, a function room with an open fireplace, an eco-toilet, a sauna, bathing rocks and a viewpoint; visiting boats are welcome too. Club life includes a sailing school, match racing and events such as the light festival and lectures. Summer marina berths in Säffle are managed by Föreningen Säffle Båt.

History

Säffle Segelklubb (SSK) was founded in 1952 as a non-profit club for boating enthusiasts, mainly within Säffle municipality. Over the decades, the crane area became the central place for handling leisure boats in Säffle. It provides a crane for boats up to ten tonnes, a tractor for transport, water and electricity, and storage spaces for a large number of boats. Membership in Säffle Segelklubb is required for a winter storage space or a boat slot in the boat shed; lifting boats for launch or haul-out is also possible without membership according to the set fees. The club operates the island Sandön with docks, a barbecue area, a function room with an open fireplace, an eco-toilet, a sauna, bathing rocks, blueberry forest and a viewpoint. Visiting boats are welcome on Sandön; a voluntary guest harbour contribution is requested. Summer berths in Säffle are managed by Föreningen Säffle Båt. Membership and storage fees are invoiced in spring, crane lifts in autumn afterwards. Since 2013, with an update in 2016, the winter storage fee doubles each year for boats not launched for three years to prevent the area being used as a dump for discarded boats.
