Soon Seilforening
Soon Seilforening is a traditional Norwegian sailing club in Son on the Oslofjord and is affiliated with the Norwegian Sailing Federation. The club uses the Neptun clubhouse with marina facilities in the heart of Son harbour and offers guest berths as well as fixed member moorings. The programme ranges from Optimist and ILCA dinghy groups through Dragon and J/70 to Wednesday keelboat racing, LadiesSailing and offshore events such as Sooningen. Beginner and advanced training, a summer sailing school and regular championships shape the offer for children, juniors and adults. Since its founding in 1919 and the new Neptun clubhouse in 1986, the club has about 400 members and has produced well-known sailors.
History
Soon Seilforening was founded on 18 February 1919. For many years the well-known venue Klubben in Son served as the clubhouse. In 1986 the newly built Neptun clubhouse with a new pontoon facility was taken into use. Club life ranges from dinghy sailing for children to offshore sailing with large keelboats. The club has regularly organised major events such as Norwegian championships, Norgescuper and Hollænderen. Well-known sailors such as Espen and Thomas Guttormsen as well as Siren and Christopher Sundby came from the club. Soon Seilforening is affiliated with the Norwegian Sailing Federation (NSF). The Neptun clubhouse was fully renovated in January 2021; the large modern kitchen was refurbished in 2020. Today the association has about 400 members and is organised in subgroups such as dinghy, keelboat, LadiesSailing and J/70.
