Södertälje Båtklubb
Södertälje Båtklubb is a non-profit boat association with traditions dating back to 1919, located with its two harbours Karlberga and Gamla Mälarbadet in Södertälje on the Lake Mälaren side. The club island Slandö Kalv lies on southern Björkfjärden, reachable after about five nautical miles by boat. Around 350 members and roughly 200 boats of varying size are based at the club yards and berths. The clubhouse Kompassen can be hired by eligible members and seats up to 60 people. Children and young people have a clear place in sailing schools and camps; adults can join training courses and evening sailing. Statutes, harbour rules and an environmental policy shape everyday club life and community boating on Lake Mälaren.
History
Södertälje Båtklubb was founded in 1919 and thus looks back on more than a century of club history. The non-profit association is rooted in Södertälje on Lake Mälaren with the two harbours Karlberga and Gamla Mälarbadet. Its facilities include the club island Slandö Kalv on southern Björkfjärden, about five nautical miles away by boat. Today the club has around 350 members and houses roughly 200 boats of different sizes at its yards. The clubhouse Kompassen serves as a meeting place and may be hired once a year for private use by registered boat owners or officials aged 20 or over, and after board approval for education or conferences; the rooms hold up to 60 people. Environmental work with an environmental policy, waste plans for Karlberga, Mälarbadet and Slandö Kalv, and guidance on sustainable boating and hull care is part of the club profile. Training for new members, pre-launch boat checks, navigation and evening sailing for adults complement sailing schools and camps for children and youth. Open volunteer roles in training, racing and social committees reflect the club’s active unpaid structure.
