SMCL Segel- und Motorboot-Club Langenargen-Schwedi e.V.
SMCL Segel- und Motorboot-Club Langenargen-Schwedi e.V. is a small, family-like watersports club founded in 1972, with a boat yard at the Schussen river mouth between Langenargen and the Eriskircher Ried nature reserve on Lake Constance. Moorings lie on a well-kept grass area; a concrete Schussen slipway with electric winch allows launching into the Schussen and makes the site an ideal starting point for dinghies and dinghy cruisers. The club has the clubroom “Hock”, organises start-of-season and end-of-season sails, lake clean-ups and the traditional Schwedi Cup regatta, and offers joint sailing and barbecue afternoons via a WhatsApp community. For the 50th anniversary in 2022 the Schwedi jubilee regatta was held; the club grounds are on the property of Rosy Göppinger in Langenargen-Schwedi.
History
SMCL Segel- und Motorboot-Club Langenargen-Schwedi e.V. was founded in 1972 and is a small, family-like club for watersports enthusiasts. The boat yard lies at the Schussen river mouth between Langenargen and the Eriskircher Ried nature reserve on the grounds of Rosy Göppinger; moorings are on a well-kept grass area, and a concrete Schussen slipway with electric winch allows launching into the Schussen. In 2022 SMCL celebrated its 50th anniversary; festivities took place from 15 to 17 July 2022, including the Schwedi jubilee regatta. For the anniversary, old film footage was restored and published on the club’s Instagram channel. The Schwedi Cup regatta is part of the annual programme and was held in 2021 and 2025 among other years; in 2020 it was cancelled, and for 2026 it was cancelled due to low water levels. Instead, a summer festival with boat christening as well as start-of-season and end-of-season sails and a lake clean-up with the annual general meeting form club life. The clubroom “Hock” has its own house rules; yard rules, berth allocation rules and the statutes govern club life. The club maintains ties with the friendly Seeclub Egnach in Switzerland, which often enters boats in the SMCL sailing regatta.
