Nynäshamns Segelsällskap
Nynäshamns Segelsällskap (NSS) is the active sailing and boating club of the seaside town of Nynäshamn on Sweden’s Baltic coast. The club runs a substantial facility with a yard and pontoons at Fagerviken, further berths at Trehörningsviken, and owns the club island Lacka north of Nynäshamn. The programme covers junior and adult sailing, summer camps in Optimist, RS Tera and Feva, canoe tuition, and club and racing sailing. With about 885 members (as of January 2018) and a clear environmental programme, NSS shapes maritime club life in the region.
History
Nynäshamns Segelsällskap (NSS) has long been an established actor in the boating and sailing life of Nynäshamn. The club owns a facility with a yard and pontoons at Fagerviken, further berths at Trehörningsviken, and the club island Lacka about five nautical miles north of the town. In 2013 work began on the “Myhrstigen” trail on Lacka: the “Minns Med NSS” group built a stone cairn and marked a blue route to viewpoints and shore sections. In 2015 NSS first submitted an environmental plan to Södertörns Miljö- och Hälsoskyddsförbund (SMOHF); from 2017 annual progress reports on the environmental policy followed. In March 2018 the members’ meeting approved XRF surveys of boats stored on the yard; Happy Boat AB carried out the measurements from 23 to 25 March 2018. In August 2018 the results, SMOHF requirements and possible LOVA funding were presented. Mapping showed that around 100 boats need antifouling paint remediation. In parallel NSS expands youth and training work, including sailing and canoe camps and the Pirate Sailing School for children aged five to seven. Today the club has 885 members (January 2018) and continues work on environmentally friendly boating, guest berths and active youth development.
