Näsijärven Purjehdusseura - Näsijärvi Segelsällskap ry

Näsijärven Purjehdusseura (Ännä) is Finland's largest inland sailing club by membership and activity level, founded in 1898 and based since 1975 at Jänissaari island in Tampere on Lake Näsijärvi. The club offers member berths and winter storage, a year-round activity centre with maintenance, service, meeting and storage facilities plus a large hall, a log sauna and a seasonal café-restaurant. The programme covers active youth and adult training, ILCA coaching, cruising with club outstations on the Näsijärvi waterway, and a strong racing section with club-organised regattas. A distinctive feature is its long tradition as Finland's largest inland club, with an active sea division in the Archipelago Sea and extensive sailing education.

History

Näsijärven Purjehdusseura – Näsijärvi Segelsällskap ry was founded in 1898 and is today Finland's largest inland sailing club by membership and activity. The home harbour was first at Pajasaari; in 1975 the club moved to Jänissaari in Tampere-Lentävänniemi on the western side of Näsinselkä. Berths were initially mainly on the south side of the island; later shore filling allowed the harbour to grow to its present size. The home harbour provides member berths and winter storage and a year-round activity centre with maintenance, service, meeting and storage rooms and a large hall. Jänissaari also has a log sauna and a seasonal café-restaurant. The club is active in cruising and racing and invests strongly in youth work and training. It maintains cruise outstations on the Näsijärvi waterway (Säynässaaret, Kipparinmaa, Viitasaari, Puosunmaa, Rasvasaari); Puosunmaa is the oldest. An active sea division looks after more than 50 boats in south-west Finland's Archipelago Sea as far as the Mediterranean and organises the traditional Suolavesi race among other events. The junior fleet includes eight Optimists and 606s for training and racing; ILCA coaching continues the pathway.
