Club Deportivo Náutico Mar de Castilla
Club Deportivo Náutico Mar de Castilla is a nautical sports club in Burgos, Spain, promoting sailing and water sports for enthusiasts across the region. Its headquarters are at Café Kivu on Avenida de la Paz 5 in Burgos, where membership applications are also available. The club organises sailing trips and day outings on the Bay of Biscay, often with Escuela Náutica As de Guía in Getxo, for example from Getxokaia to Castro Urdiales. Members can join practice and training days and receive discounted rates on partner PER (Patrón de Embarcaciones de Recreo) courses. The club upholds the maritime tradition of Burgos and Castilla and took part in organising the 2014 sailing world championship in Santander.
History
Club Deportivo Náutico Mar de Castilla was founded as a meeting place for nautical enthusiasts in Burgos after many residents wanted a club for exchange and sporting and cultural events. In July 2014 the official blog went live to publish news, photos, videos and the region’s nautical history. That same year the club was represented at the sailing world championship in Santander by the president and other board members and was nominated as an outstanding organisation at the Gala Provincial del Deporte Burgalés 2014. In 2015 the club moved its headquarters to Café Kivu, Avenida de la Paz 5 in Burgos. From 2015 and 2016 it ran joint sailing outings with Escuela Náutica As de Guía in Getxo, including day trips to Castro Urdiales and voyages on the Bay of Biscay. Regional press such as Diario de Burgos and Gente en Burgos covered the launch and activities. In 2016 member Antonio Altide began an Atlantic crossing towards America via Lanzarote on the steel yacht Izaro. The blog also publishes pieces on the nautical history of Burgos and Castilla, including Antonio Valdés y Fernández Bazán and the city’s maritime role.
