Norrtälje Segelsällskap
Norrtälje Segelsällskap (NSS) is the official sailing club of Norrtälje in Sweden, with club island Flaten at the entrance to Norrtäljeviken, northwest of Gräddö. Members have access to berths in the club harbour and additional jetties, winter storage and a clubhouse with sauna on Flaten. The programme ranges from Wednesday racing and events such as Furusundsregattan, Norrtäljeregattan and Skärgårdsregattan to a youth section with sailing school and activities at Camp Roslagen. A distinctive feature is the club's own island Flaten with guest jetties San Francisco and Polisbryggan plus traditional gatherings such as Midsummer and family days.
History
Norrtälje Segelsällskap runs club island Flaten (on some charts Flåten) at the entrance to Norrtäljeviken, about one nautical mile northwest of Gräddö and roughly ten nautical miles from Norrtälje. The island is the social and sporting hub: clubhouse, sauna, barbecue areas and jetties shape club life. Besides the office on Villagatan in Norrtälje, NSS maintains several harbour areas with berths in the club harbour as well as at Grind and in Kvisthamraviken. The racing programme includes regular Wednesday races at the clubhouse, Furusundsregattan, Norrtäljeregattan, the club championship (KM) on Flaten and Skärgårdsregattan. The youth section organises sailing schools and try-out sailing, including at Camp Roslagen. Traditional events such as Midsummer and family days on Flaten strengthen the community. Visiting boats are welcome at the western jetties San Francisco and Polisbryggan.
