History

The Sailing Division is a department of MBB-SG Augsburg e.V. and operates under the main club's statutes while managing its allocated funds independently for sailing purposes. It is a member of the Bavarian Sailing Association and the German Sailing Association. At Haunstetter Straße 168 in Augsburg it runs a club house with storage for keelboats and dinghies, training and meeting rooms, and a restaurant. On Lake Mandicho (Lechstaustufe 23) it maintains a support base with a container used in summer for sailors' gatherings; five club dinghies and one keelboat are based there. Another keelboat is kept on Lake Ammer. A hallmark of the division is its comparatively large club fleet, available free of charge to members and covered by liability and partly hull insurance. Membership stands at around 35; many are fully qualified inland skippers, and well over half also hold coastal qualifications. Regular sailing get-togethers take place at 19:00 at the club house or on Lake Mandicho, often combined with barbecues, shared meals or special occasions such as the Christmas sailing evening. Since at least 2022 the division has held dinghy days on Lake Mandicho. Reports document repeated success at the Marinekutter Regatta, including the 135th and 136th editions, and participation in Kiel Week in the open Marinekutter class. Each year competitive sailors and regatta newcomers take part in selected events such as races at Lechstaustufe 23 and the 24-hour regatta on Lake Ammer. Training is provided in-house or in cooperation with Sportbootschule Augsburg; taster courses are also available without club membership as part of trial training.
