History

Club Náutico Marina de Avilés-La Peñona was founded in 2005 as a non-profit sports association to bring together lovers of nautical activities and promote sailing and related sports. Marina de Avilés sits in a deep estuary on the site of the early fishing port that gave rise to the town of Avilés and is regarded as one of the safest harbours on the Cantabrian Sea. Today the marina lies close to the city centre and the Oscar Niemeyer International Cultural Centre and serves as a craft base as well as a transit and hibernation harbour for national and international sailors. The club operates 236 moorings for boats between 5 and 20 metres, reserves transit berths and runs sports, social and training events throughout the year, including sailing races, rowing and fishing contests and courses for nautical certificates. Under CIF G74379371 the club is the legal operator of the website and harbour facilities in Asturias and continues to combine club life with professional marina infrastructure.
