Märsta Båtklubb
Märsta Båtklubb is a boat and sailing club in the sheltered bay of Flottviken on northern Lake Mälaren, close to Sigtunafjärden and the harbour life of Sigtuna. The club maintains a harbour with nearly 200 berths on five jetties and a yard of about 69,800 square metres for more than 200 boats, including a clubhouse with terrace, watch cabin, barbecue area and a mast crane on a 30-metre quay. The programme covers joint upkeep of harbour and yard, the club island Landholmen in Görväln with sauna and bathing jetty, as well as gatherings, parties, courses and competitions. Especially characteristic are the weekly Wednesday sails, open also to guests without their own boat, complemented by seasonal races such as Vårköret and Höstköret. Founded on 7 July 1964, the club has for more than 60 years helped residents of Sigtuna municipality enjoy an active boating life.
History
Märsta Båtklubb was founded on 7 July 1964. For more than 60 years the club has helped residents of Sigtuna municipality lead an active boating life and promotes interest in sound watersports, seamanship and respect for sea and nature. The sheltered facility lies in northern Lake Mälaren, at the head of Flottviken beside Sigtunafjärden, with access to cruising on the fjärds and town life in Sigtuna harbour. The harbour holds nearly 200 berths on five jetties; a wave breaker almost 100 metres long protects the bay. About 130 berths have Y-booms, the rest use mooring buoys. All jetties have power, water and gates against unauthorised access. A 30-metre quay with mast crane allows crane launching and packing. At the inner shore are a watch cabin, sunny terrace, barbecue, fish smoker and wood store; on the rise stands the clubhouse with terrace for festivities. The yard covers 69,800 square metres and space for just over 200 boats, with lighting, power pillars and fresh water from its own well. All electrics were renewed in 2011. Hauling and launching mainly use a Sublift 12T; smaller boats use a tractor; members with trailer may use the ramp. Launching is late April and early May, hauling in October. Together the club cares for Landholmen island in south-western Görväln, south of Kungsängen, shared with Sigtuna Båtklubb and Hässelby Strands Båtklubb. The island has jetties for sailing boats and shallower craft, a roofed wooden deck as sail dryer and dance floor, and a wood-fired sauna with bathing jetty. Midsummer is celebrated there each year with live music, singing, dancing, quiz walk and pentathlon. Spring cleaning is in June; closing late September. Members with berth or yard space do at least two work duties and one night watch per year and boat. Since 2024 an SMBF partnership with Svenska Kryssarklubben Stockholm offers training opportunities. Weekly Wednesday sails and seasonal races such as Vårköret and Höstköret are a fixed part of club life.
