History

Roermondse Roei- en Zeilvereniging Maas en Roer was founded on 9 June 1909 and is one of the most traditional watersports clubs in Central Limburg. The association promotes watersports in general and sailing in particular in the Mid-Limburg watersports area. Maas en Roer has been awarded the Royal Medal of Honour (Koninklijke Erepenning); the patron is Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet. The club operates its own marina on the Zuidplas in the Roermond lake district on a site of about six hectares with roughly 400 berths on 13 modern floating pontoons. With around 700 members and only three paid staff, the club relies heavily on volunteer committees. Safety and environmental quality rank highly: the harbour flies the Blue Flag and has a comprehensive task risk analysis plus a confidential contact person. Recent projects include solar panels on the storage hall, new floats under the pontoons, renewal of the large crane drive, quay hardening and harbour deepening. National championships such as the ONK Yngling and ONK H-Boat as well as the Euregio Regatta continue to shape the club's sporting profile.
