Moss Seilforening
Moss Seilforening is the central sailing club in Moss, offering sailing for all ages on the southeastern side of Jeløya at Søly marina. The facility has more than 300 permanent berths, a clubhouse, mast crane, slipway and winter storage ashore, close to child-friendly beaches and the town centre. The dinghy group mainly sails Optimist and 29er, complemented by beginner courses, summer sailing school and local to national regattas. Members can use two club-owned J/70 boats for training and racing; the cruising group organises touring sails and the weekly Navigare Cup. With its 2026–2030 strategy under the motto “Livslang seiling”, the club strengthens volunteering, inclusion and its role as a maritime actor in the coastal town of Moss.
History
Moss Seilforening explicitly defines itself as a sailing club for lifelong sailing and anchored this direction in the strategy and organisational plan for 2026–2030 adopted at the annual meeting on 19 March. The new direction aims for more active sailors, a stronger sense of community and a more robust club structure for all age groups. The vision is “Livslang seiling”: sailing should be possible for members in all life stages, not only for children and youth; the mission is to get more residents of Moss and the surrounding area out on the water. Strategically the club rests on volunteering and club assets, with priorities on stable harbour finances, sailing sport and activity, inclusion, and local anchoring as a maritime actor in the coastal town. Søly harbour is the main income source and the basis for offers from summer sailing school and dinghy sailing through to larger classes, regattas and offshore sailing. At the annual meeting the former mandatory eight-hour night watch for boat owners was abolished and replaced by a volunteering group where members contribute four hours according to their own circumstances. At the same time the new organisational plan lays the groundwork for a managing director role to coordinate activity, events, volunteering, harbour and facilities, and the club’s role in the local community. In addition the club is expanding its offer, including a sauna raft at the Søly breakwater in cooperation with Blender Invest and club-owned J/70 boats as a bridge between dinghy and keelboat sailing.
