Luc Yacht Club
Luc Yacht Club is the official sailing school and yacht club of Luc-sur-Mer on the Côte de Nacre in Calvados, Normandy. Since its founding in 1972, the association has become the leading sailing school in the département by number of licence holders for discovery and teaching practice. At the Amiral Brac de la Perrière building on Rue Guynemer it offers catamaran, Optimist, dinghy and windsurfing programmes as well as wing-foil, stand-up paddle and the Mercator schooner. Alongside courses, annual membership and regattas there is an active Moussaillons youth school for children from age four and competition sections for catamaran, dinghies and boards. A mix of volunteers and paid staff delivers a wide nautical programme for individuals, families, schools and companies.
History
Luc Yacht Club was founded in 1972 in Luc-sur-Mer on the Côte de Nacre in Calvados and has since become a firm nautical reference in the region. Association Luc Yacht Club describes itself as the first sailing school in Calvados by number of licence holders for discovery and teaching practice and is affiliated with the Fédération Française de Voile under number 0414022 and Jeunesse et Sports approval number 1404000. From 2014 the club pursued a project for its own Mercator-type schooner; since 2015 this roughly 7.50-metre collective dinghy for up to eleven people has been available for coastal outings, baptisms and family trips and is presented as unique on the Côte de Nacre and in Calvados. In parallel the club built a broad programme of catamaran levels (XS to L), Optimist within the Moussaillons offer, dinghy, windsurfing, funboard, wing-foil as well as land sailing and towed buoys. The competition section organises club regattas for catamaran, dinghies and boards; club regattas from 2022 appear in the news. Today volunteers and paid staff combine course weeks, year-round sailing from September to December and March to June, the Moussaillons youth school and corporate and school offers at the site next to the casino at the western end of the town.
