History
Lempäälän-Vesilahden Pursiseura ry is the boating and sailing club based in Lempäälä. According to its rules, the club promotes boating and sailing knowledge among the population and especially young people through courses, practical training, competitions and lake rescue activities. The club belongs to the national federation Suomen Purjehdus ja Veneily (SPV) and, through its navigation section, to the Finnish Navigation Association. The club harbour lies above the Lempäälä Canal on Valkeakoskentie; two further landing places are maintained below the canal on Kirkkojärvi. In total there are about 80 floating berths and more than 50 shore places for rowing boats. At Uittoranta harbour there is waste collection, a water tap, a few guest berths at the foot of the jetty, and recording video surveillance. The Pursipirtti base is on Salonsaari in Hinsala, Vesilahti, on the shipping route between Tampere and Lempäälä (coordinates 61°20'N 23°34'E), about 12 km by water from Lempäälä. Sauna use at Pursipirtti has continued since 1984; members and other clubs flying a club burgee may moor at the jetty. The club organises harbour work parties, boat launching and haul-out days, Midsummer and autumn events at the base, and the statutory spring and autumn general meetings.
