Ljungskile Segelsällskap
Ljungskile Segelsällskap (LjSS) is the sailing club of Ljungskile on Sweden’s west coast and a member of Västkustens Seglarförbund. The club is located at Strandvägen 26 directly on Ljungskile Bay and offers a white clubhouse, jetties, ramps and winter boat storage. Around 380 members are organised in eight sections; the programme includes a sailing school, dinghy training on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and the LjSS Cup. Juniors and adults sail among other classes in 2.4mR and RS Quest, complemented by team racing and club regattas. Since its founding in 1962, Swedish championship titles and international appearances at European and World Championships, together with the vision “More sails on the bay”, have shaped the club.
History
Ljungskile Segelsällskap was founded on 26 August 1962 and belongs to Västkustens Seglarförbund. The club grew into an active sailing association on Ljungskile Bay on the west coast, today with around 380 members in eight sections. Over the years LjSS built a sailing school and a broad section structure including dinghy, racing, training, clubhouse, slip and material, truck and recreational sections. The club traditionally hosts Majbrasan, the LjSS Cup on Thursday evenings and club championships for dinghies and 2.4mR. Internationally the club has competed at World and European Championships and won several Swedish championship gold medals, especially in team sailing, match racing and RS Aero. More recently LjSS has been involved in the Ljungskile Marina Arena project and pursues the vision “More sails on the bay”. The facility at Strandvägen 26 with white clubhouse, jetties and winter storage is available to members year-round.
