Linköpings Segelsällskap

Linköpings Segelsällskap (LSS) is a traditional sailing club with home harbour, boatyard and clubhouse in Linköping at the mouth of the Stångån river into Lake Roxen. The club offers harbour and yard berths, hireable club boats (Mustang JR), guest berths for Göta Canal sailors and a comfortable clubhouse with kitchen and sanitary facilities. The programme includes evening racing, regattas, certified adult sailing school, para sailing, radio-controlled sailing and e-sailing; members can also take courses such as Förarintyg and VHF. Founded in 1912, LSS is one of three boat clubs in Linköping and part of Linköpings Båtklubbars Hamnförening; the present harbour was built in 1973, and a para-sailing ramp was installed in 2021.

History

Linköpings Segelsällskap (LSS) was founded in 1912 and is today one of three boat clubs in Linköping. Together with Segelsällskapet Roxen (SSR) and Linköpings Motorbåtsklubb (LMBK), LSS forms Linköpings Båtklubbars Hamnförening (LBH), which leases the harbour from the City of Linköping. The present sailing harbour was excavated from a clay field west of the Stångån in 1973 after the former club harbours in the river became unusable due to motorway construction north of Linköping. Home harbour, yard and clubhouse are on Norra Oskarsgatan at the mouth of the Stångån into Lake Roxen; via the Göta Canal, Roxen connects to both the east and west coasts. LSS runs year-round evening sailing, regattas, courses, para sailing and radio sailing and lets members hire fast day-sailers (Mustang JR). In 2021 a para-sailing ramp was installed; work continues toward a more lively harbour arena with better accessibility and guest facilities. From 2020 the club has engaged in the Blå Roxen environmental project against waterweed and eutrophication and cooperates on the Roxenkortet charting project.
