Lidingö Båtklubb

History

Lidingö Båtklubb was founded on 19 September 1922 when boat owners at Kyrkviken met at Café Bredablick near Hersbyholm to organise shared winter storage, slip and jetties. 23 people joined as members; merchant Nils Rinman became the first chairman. In 1923 the club pennant was adopted and a harbour master hired; in 1924 a lease with Lidingö Villastad followed. By 1927 there were 54 members and 47 berths; in 1932 the club celebrated its tenth anniversary with over 100 members. In 1935 LBK helped found Lidingö Båtförbund; in 1938 the federation bought the island Ekskär in Edöfjärd as a shared club island. The first clubhouse was built by members and inaugurated in spring 1940. In 1944 AB Lidingö Villastad donated the club grounds at Kyrkviken to LBK; legal title came in 1950. After the war the club grew: 135 members and over 90 boats in 1946, 283 members and 209 boats by 1965. Electricity arrived in 1952; concrete pontoons and a mast crane followed in the 1950s. In the 1980s the harbour had about 265 berths and around 200 winter places. In 2008 the 1940 clubhouse was demolished and a new building inaugurated on 18 October. From 2010 to 2022 the club modernised quays, Y-booms, mast crane, dinghy jetties, workshop, environmental station, security and the clubhouse veranda. In 2022 LBK celebrated 100 years under the motto “100 år till havs med LBK” with about 350 members, 250 summer and 190 winter berths.
