Lakeside Sailing Club
Lakeside Sailing Club (LSC) is a non-profit sailing club based at the Seebad Breitenbrunn on Lake Neusiedl in Burgenland, Austria. Together with Esterházy and SPORTUNION, a modern club concept for elite and recreational sailing was created; since 2019 land and water berths have been available, first via a container solution and now with a new club area. The club offers junior weekends with Optimists and other boats, racing focused on the Topcat class, and participation in the sailing Bundesliga on J/70. The target groups are families, junior sailors and ambitious racers; the programme includes training, Action Days and international championships. A distinctive feature is the rapid development from an idea among racing friends into a recognised OeSV club with a long-term lease and a strong Topcat record.
History
Lakeside Sailing Club grew out of a small group of sailors who, together with Esterházy as landowner and with support from SPORTUNION, developed a new sailing concept for Breitenbrunn. The aim was the long-term, sustainable practice of sailing in both elite and recreational sport on site. From the 2019 sailing season onwards, land and water berths were provided in the public Seebad area; a container solution initially enabled club life. In July 2019 the LSC moved onto its club grounds with dry berths at Seebad Breitenbrunn and water berths in Marina Ost and began admitting members. As a young OeSV club, it hosted its first major regatta in 2022, the Topcat K1 national championship on Lake Neusiedl with 19 catamarans and international participation. In 2022 the LSC team qualified for the Austrian sailing Bundesliga 2023 in the J/70 class. At Topcat national championships and world championships the club achieved many successes, including national titles and medal places; Vice President Mathias Equiluz also organised the Topcat Worlds as president of the International Topcat Class Association. Junior weekends were expanded over the years, sometimes also at the Thaya reservoir with Yachtclub DYJE, and in 2025 the largest junior weekend so far took place with 18 participants and the official opening of the new club area. In 2025 the club started with a long-term lease and the development of the new club grounds; an idea among racing friends has become a recognised sports club.
