OSYC – Austrian Offshore Yacht Club
The OSYC – Austrian Offshore Yacht Club is a non-profit, independent sailing club based in Vienna with about 19 regional groups across Austria. The club focuses on ocean sailing, offshore cruising and maritime education rather than a single inland club harbour. Members benefit from skipper training, regatta training, JachtVO licence courses, club evenings and crewing offers. Founded in 1980 and recognised as examination body PRO OSYC, the association shapes training, exams and club life in Austria's offshore sailing community.
History
Since its founding in 1980, the OSYC – Austrian Offshore Yacht Club has consistently put talent, passion, experience and effort at the service of its members. As a non-profit, independent association it is not commercially driven and emphasises environmental and marine protection as well as maritime culture and tradition. A further focus is professional nautical training culminating in examinations without undue pressure. OSYC is approved by the federal ministry as examination organisation PRO and may conduct JachtVO exams, issue licences and facilitate International Certificates via viadonau. Club life takes place in numerous regional groups that organise monthly evenings, lectures and further training. On 16 November 2025 a new board was elected at the general meeting in Leibnitz, with Ing. Michael Schober as president. The club also runs events such as the OSYC Cup, Neusiedlersee season opening, fun regattas and formats like sail trim, tidal cruises and skipper training. The club magazine „Neues Logbuch“ appears three times a year; members can use partner discounts and reduced berths via the club card.
