Os Seilforening
Os Seilforening is the sailing club for all sailing enthusiasts in Bjørnafjorden municipality in Vestland, Norway. The club runs its own marina at Kvernevika on the island of Strøno, with a clubhouse and more than 100 berths for members. The programme covers cruising and offshore sailing, sports sailing and dinghy sailing; juniors train weekly in season mainly in Optimist, and the club owns a J/70 for sports sailing and youth. An active race committee organises well-known Hordaland events such as Korsfjordtrimmen and Huftarøy rundt as well as weekly trim races. Since relaunching the dinghy programme in 2023, the club has focused on recruitment days, summer school and regional competitions and welcomes beginners as well as experienced sailors.
History
Os Seilforening organises sailing in Bjørnafjorden and operates the club facilities at Kvernevika on Strøno. There the marina offers more than 100 member berths, a dinghy ramp, mast crane and slipway including a sublift for hauling boats, plus winter storage ashore; the site is CCTV-monitored and members keep the area in order. The clubhouse provides a meeting room, toilets, showers and storage for dinghies and gear. The club runs active groups for cruising and offshore sailing, sports sailing and dinghy sailing and traditionally hosts popular Hordaland regattas including Korsfjordtrimmen and Huftarøy rundt, complemented by weekly trim races. In 2023 Os Seilforening relaunched dinghy sailing for children and youth, focusing on Optimist for ages 8 to 15, recruitment days, summer school, internal dinghy gatherings and regional events. According to the club, six Optimists plus other training boats and RIB support boats are available; in parallel the club’s own J/70 and cooperation with regional sailing clubs expand sports sailing and training for teenagers and young adults.
