Öresjö SS

Öresjö SS (Öresjö Segelsällskap) is the oldest still active sports club in Borås and is located on Lake Öresjö in Västra Götaland, Sweden. The club runs a motorboat section with harbour facilities at Ryda/Almenäs and a strong rowing section with a training facility and gym at Skogsryd. The clubhouse stands on a shore plot, seats about 40 people and can be hired by members for events. Juniors aged roughly 10 to 18 train several times a week; there is family training, adult rowing courses, berths, boat sheds and canoe/kayak places. Founded in June 1886 to promote life on the water, Öresjö SS is among the most successful sports clubs in the Sjuhärad region, with numerous Swedish championship titles and international results.

Borås, Schweden

History

Öresjö SS was founded in June 1886 in Borås and is thereby the city's oldest sports association still active today. The original purpose was to promote the art of building, rigging and handling pleasure sailing boats, to provide members with shared pleasures and recreation, and to awaken enthusiasm for a refreshing and strengthening life on the water. History since then has been rich in sporting success: Öresjö SS holds the most Swedish championship (SM) titles in the Sjuhärad region; international results at Nordic Championships, Europeans, Worlds and the Olympics are significant especially in Swedish rowing. Today the club runs rowing and training at Skogsryd and a boat harbour at Almenäs (motorboat section at Ryda). Sailing is no longer the main focus; the historic mission of shared enjoyment and a strengthening life on the water continues. The clubhouse sits on a shore plot at Öresjö and can be hired for conferences and celebrations. Junior work follows the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child; the club motto is “alla skall med” (everyone shall join in).
