Jönköpings Segelsällskap

Jönköpings Segelsällskap (JSS) is one of Sweden's oldest boat clubs, located at the southern end of Lake Vättern near Jönköping and Huskvarna. The club runs several harbours and facilities, including Huskvarna Hamn, Rosendala with clubhouse and yard, Munksjöslipen and the outport Sjöbo. Amenities include moorings with around 220 berths, boat sheds, mast and slipway cranes, sauna and an accessible lift bridge. Sailing school, youth section, regattas, trips and fishing are part of the programme. Since its founding around 1890, JSS has shaped boating life on southern Vättern with a strong community and long tradition.

History

Jönköpings Segelsällskap is among Sweden's oldest boat clubs and celebrates a long history on southern Lake Vättern as a vital 125-year-old. Jubilee books cover 1890–1990 and the first forty years, documenting the club's development. Roots lie at Munksjöslipen on the eastern shore of Munksjön, where the club started over a century ago and still uses around forty boat sheds for building and restoring historic Vättern boats. In 1914 JSS acquired the outport Sjöbo for 1,200 kronor despite strong protests; the majority prevailed. Documents on Sjöbo date back to 1790; the Nybygget croft was likely built in the mid-18th century. After fixed bridges cut access to the old Munksjön base, today's main harbours were built. Since 1993 JSS has run Huskvarna harbour; Huskvarna Hamn and Rosendala Bryggor together offer about 220 berths on Vättern. Rosendala became the heart of the club with clubhouse, asphalt hardstanding, boat sheds, service pier, mast crane, launching crane and diesel sales. Sjöbo gained a service building in 2012; the site was extensively renovated between 2020 and 2022. Today JSS unites sailors, motorboaters and anglers and organises sailing school, regattas, trips, parties and fishing contests on southern Vättern.
