JK Kvarner
Jedriličarski klub Kvarner (JK Kvarner) is an active sailing club on the eastern coast of Istria in the tourist town of Rabac, based at Camping Oliva in the Maslinica area just steps from the Adriatic Sea and the beach. The club offers moorings for keel boats, two slipways, boat and trailer parking as well as car parking, briefing rooms with Wi-Fi and projector, separate changing rooms and showers, and indoor sail storage. The programme includes a children's sailing school on Optimists, a basic cruiser course for adults, competitive sailing in Optimist and ILCA classes, and an active cruiser section with regattas along the Adriatic. Training camps, boat rental and the traditional Rabačka Regatta shape the annual calendar; the club is a member of the Croatian Sailing Federation and the Istrian County Sailing Federation. A distinctive feature is its commitment to preserving the historic Teleferika as Rabac's industrial cultural heritage.
History
Jedriličarski klub Kvarner operates in Rabac on the eastern coast of Istria and is dedicated to spreading sailing sport and sailing culture in the region. Throughout the year the club runs programmes for the racing team as well as recreational sailing on the club cruiser and members' privately owned cruisers. Teams regularly compete in regattas along the entire Adriatic coast; the club organises its own events such as the traditional Rabačka Regatta and summer courses for children and adults, and maintains its boats and club premises. Funding comes from grants from the Labin city sports association, course fees and other services, membership fees, voluntary donations and sponsorships; all members of the club bodies work as volunteers without pay. JK Kvarner is a member of the Croatian Sailing Federation, the Istrian County Sailing Federation and the Labin city sports association. Since its founding, members have sought to pass on the love of wind, sea and sailing to younger generations. In addition, through the project "Do Teleferike i nazad" the club works to protect the sea and coastline and to revitalise the historic Teleferika, a former bauxite cableway and harbour facility from 1925 and the only example of industrial architecture in Rabac.
