Jacht Klub Wielkopolski
Jacht Klub Wielkopolski is a traditional sailing club in Poznań on Lake Kierskie, based at Wilków Morskich 17/19. The club runs a structured sports programme with coaches for Optimist and ILCA as well as a sailing school for the youngest members. Club regattas are held on site, including Regaty Armatorów JKW, Kierskie Regaty pod Gwiazdami and the long-standing Srebrny Żagiel Optimista as a qualifier for the Polish youth championships. The offer is aimed at beginners, juniors and experienced racing sailors and covers training, club life, social integration and sporting events on the lake.
History
Jacht Klub Wielkopolski was founded on 18 August 1933 at a constitutive meeting chaired by Edmund Byliński, at which the first authorities of the then Yacht Klub Poznański were elected. The first club marina on Lake Kierskie was officially opened on 1 July 1934; many well-known figures attended the ceremony, including General Mariusz Zaruski. Since then the club has established itself as a sailing club with a long tradition on Lake Kierskie in Poznań and still organises major youth and club regattas such as Srebrny Żagiel Optimista with several hundred participants.
