Jedriličarski klub "3. maj"
Jedriličarski klub "3. maj" is a non-profit sailing club in Rijeka, based in the small marina Brgudi in the Kantrida district. Administration, hangar, sailing boats and club rooms for everyday sport operations are located there. The club organises the traditional two-day Primorska Regatta for cruisers on the Rijeka–Cres–Rijeka course, the Sv. Vid youth regatta and the Nautička Regatta in Rijeka harbour. Focus areas include youth development and the summer sailing school for children from age seven as well as adults; classes sailed include Optimist, ILCA and 420. Founded in 1948 and with around 150 members, the club is a key organiser of youth sailing in Rijeka.
History
Jedriličarski klub "3. MAJ" was officially founded in 1948; beginnings date to early 1946, when sailing enthusiasts gathered at the "3. MAJ" shipyard. With support from the union and shipyard management they obtained rooms in the ground floor of the shipyard clinic near marina Brgudi in Kantrida. At that time the club had a 13-metre cruiser (the legendary "Riketa") and an Adriatic dinghy. A wooden hangar was soon built beside the harbour, where two Star-class boats, two Cadets and six Šljuka were built, enabling the club to grow and achieve early race successes. Since 1982 the club has organised the Primorska Regatta as a two-day cruiser race Rijeka–Cres–Rijeka. Since 2004, as the organiser of youth sailing in Rijeka, it has run the Sv. Vid regatta in Optimist and ILCA in the Bay of Rijeka. The Nautička Regatta (open club race in the Croatian Sailing Federation calendar) first took place in 2015 and starts in Rijeka harbour off Gato Karoline. Today the club has around 150 members of all ages; besides Primorska, the focus is on training young sailors through the sailing school.
