History

Jedriličarski klub Horizont Poreč celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2025, pointing to a founding around the year 2000. The club aims to promote, develop and spread sailing in all its forms, create conditions for competitive sailing in Poreč and connect with the international sailing community. Its base is in Peškera Bay, which the club and other water-sports associations have highlighted as a centre for watersports in Poreč. Over the years Horizont built strong youth and racing programmes: members regularly race Optimist and Laser/ILCA classes at regional and national events, including Croatian championships, Europa Cups and international regattas. Athletes such as Mare Milić, Nika Fornažar and Matej Rapić shaped club history with medals and top results at national level and appearances at European and world championships. The club organises several home regattas each year, including the traditional Open Championship of the City of Poreč for Optimist, ILCA 4 and ILCA 6, the cruiser race La Mula de Parenzo and the Optimist event CRO FISH. In parallel, the summer sailing school for children and juniors became established; in one intake more than 60 young sailors completed the course. Since 2022 a school of seamanship skills has been offered as well. Adult programmes include demo sailing and multi-day cruiser courses with theory and practice, including overnight stays on board. At the end of 2023 the club canopy was renovated. Ecological actions such as the 2017 shoreline clean-up underline the commitment to marine protection. Today JK Horizont combines youth training, racing and club life at Peškera and marks its 25th anniversary with La Mula de Parenzo 2026.
