Jakobsbergs Båtsällskap
Jakobsbergs Båtsällskap (JBS) is a non-profit boat and sailing club with its own freehold harbour on Lake Mälaren in Jakobsberg. The club operates six pontoons with electricity and water for motor and sailing boats up to 12.6 metres in length, about 270 berths on Y-booms, plus trailer and beach berths. Facilities include a large clubhouse with sauna, mast shed, mast crane, workshop, harbour office and the club island Möskär with a bathing beach and barbecue area. An active dinghy section promotes youth sailing; seminars, courses and racing complement club life. Since its founding in 1964 and the harbour purchase in 1995, JBS has been an environmentally conscious hub for around 800 members on Lake Mälaren, which is a drinking-water source.
History
Jakobsbergs Båtsällskap was founded in 1964. For the first roughly 30 years the society leased the harbour from the municipality. In January 1995 the entire facility was purchased freehold, financed by member deposits. An aerial photograph from 1969 shows when all six pontoons were completed. From 1988 the club built today's clubhouse with members' own labour and a clubhouse fee, featuring a large hall, kitchen, toilets, shower and a sauna on the lower floor. Since summer 2002 JBS has leased the club island Möskär, about three nautical miles west of the harbour, with pontoon, mooring buoys, bathing beach, barbecue area and a wood-fired sauna. The club is affiliated to the Swedish Boat Union and places strong emphasis on environmental protection because the harbour lies in the eastern Mälaren drinking-water protection area.
