Jachtclub VVW Ieperlee
Jachtclub VVW Ieperlee operates Jachthaven Ieper at the end of the canal from the Yser to Ieper, in the centre of the historic city of Ypres in Belgium. The quiet inland marina with modernised pontoons and a total of 30 berths is a base for cruising through the Westhoek and for visiting the city, its museums and the Ieperboog 14-18 cycle route. Facilities include a harbour office at Westkaai 15, sanitary facilities with showers including an accessible shower, plus electricity and water connections. The club community organises annual cruising and city events, including the festive Sint Maarten arrival with illuminated boats, and hosted the international VVW touring reunion. Since its founding in 1993, working closely with the city of Ieper, the club has become an established port of call for permanent berth holders and visiting sailors.
History
VVW Ieperlee was founded in 1993 on the occasion of the annual International VVW Touring Reunion held that year in Ieper. In cooperation with the city of Ieper, the pontoons were fully renewed in 2011 and expanded to 24 berths; on the ground floor at Westkaai 15 the harbour office was set up with new sanitary facilities including toilets and showers. In 2016 the remaining jetties at the head of the marina were renewed and expanded to 30 berths in total, of which 12 are for visitors and 18 for permanent berth holders. Close ties with the city of Ieper are also reflected in the club flag, which may bear the coat of arms of Ieper. In 2017 the city and club hosted the 37th VVW Touring Reunion from 22 to 28 May, with more than 100 participating yachts in the harbour. Annual traditions such as the Sint Maarten arrival on 10 November with festively illuminated boats and the following 11 November remembrance celebration have since shaped club life. Jachtclub VVW Ieperlee vzw runs the marina under its own harbour regulations and welcomes permanent berth holders as well as transit yachts in the centre of Ieper.
