Joersfelder Segel-Club e.V.

Joersfelder Segel-Club e.V. is the sailing club in northern Berlin at the entrance to Lake Tegel on the Havel-Oder waterway at kilometre 4.5. Founded on 14 July 1907, the club combines maritime tradition with modern youth development, competitive sailing and inclusion. On roughly 5,800 square metres with a clubhouse, harbour, pontoons, Schifferstube restaurant and beer garden, around 230 members sail in numerous classes from Optimist through 420er, 470er and 505er to Dragon, Folkboat, J/70 and 2.4mR. About 30 per cent of members are juniors and youth sailors; talent development was recognised in 2000 with the Dresdner Bank Green Ribbon. Since 2017 the para-sailing section has promoted independent sailing in 2.4mR boats with a wheelchair-accessible boarding pontoon. The Bundesliga team competes in the 1st Segel-Bundesliga; Olympic squad sailors belong to the club. Regular training, a free Optimist taster course from 1 May, sailing licence courses and the club's own regattas shape the programme.

History

Joersfelder Segel-Club e.V. was founded on 14 July 1907 in the Joersfelde colony, one of three settlements on the peninsula between the Havel and Lake Tegel. Joersfelde emerged from 1870 when hatter Otto Joers acquired farmland from Heiligensee farmers in 1891; the club and Jörsstrasse recall this origin. In 1920 Joersfelde was incorporated into Greater Berlin and today belongs to the Reinickendorf district. In 1919 the club bought the plot at Marlenestr. 19 with the clubhouse still in use today, soon followed by no. 18. After steam shipping ceased, plots 17 and 16 of the former coal yard were purchased in 1955; the club grounds now cover about 5,800 square metres. In 2007 the JSC celebrated its centenary and entered its second century on this solid foundation. The chronicle from foundation to 2007 was published as a club book. The wooden windjammer-style flagpole was replaced after lightning and later age damage; in 1998 members and friends erected a new wooden mast at the original site. In 2000 the club received the Green Ribbon for exemplary talent development. In 2017 a para-sailing section was founded; in 2018 a boarding pontoon for wheelchair users was financed. The club is a cruiser division base of the DSV and hosts regattas while co-organising Warnemünder Woche. After qualifying in 2016 the Bundesliga team rose to the 2nd league and from 2021 the 1st; in 2025 the club became German runner-up. Member achievements range from Dragon world titles to 470 Olympic participation and European and world medals.
