Hurum Seilforening
Hurum Seilforening is the official sailing club of Sætre in Asker municipality on Norway's Oslofjord. The club grounds are in central Sætre at Øraveien 8, right by the water in Sætrepollen at the mouth of the Sætreelva. Facilities include Seilerhuset as clubhouse and event venue, a boat shed (naust) for sails and gear, dinghy racks, a floating pier, escort boats and club dinghies including Optimists and one Europe dinghy. Active keelboat sailors race in Wednesday series at Sætre and Tofte from May to September; there is also weekly dinghy sailing on Thursdays and a summer camp (Sjøleir) for children. The club organises the traditional SætreKruset regatta and was named best shorthanded club in 2018 and 2019.
History
Since its founding, Hurum Seilforening has offered dinghy training for children and youth, focusing on safety and fun on the water, mainly in Optimist, To-krona, Zoom-8 and Europe. The Sætre centre site has a floating pier, naust, clubhouse, escort boats and a fleet of ten Optimists, one Europe and two To-krona boats. Dinghy activity was weak for about a decade; in summer 2020 parents restarted sailing for children and adults, initially playfully rather than as formal theory training. The keelboat section is active with Wednesday racing at Tofte and Sætre; members live across southern Norway. Despite modest size, the club achieved good results at Færdern, Hollændern, Skagen Race and smaller Oslofjord events. In 2018 and 2019 it was best shorthanded club; Yngve Lønnmo was best shorthanded sailor in 2019. The club runs Sætrekruset and Hurum Trebåtfestival races and previously organised the IF national championship, Villa Malla Cup and Hurum Golden. In Seilsportsligaen it competed 2016–2018, rose to the elite league after 2017, then withdrew in 2018; team leader was Magnus Mannermaa. Many league sailors had dinghy roots in the club in the 1990s and early 2000s. Today Wednesday series, Thursday dinghy sailing, summer camp and Seilerhuset at Sætrepollen define club life.
