Huizer Watersportvereniging
Huizer Watersportvereniging is the official water sports club in Huizen on the Old Harbour and the Gooimeer. Members sail and motorboat, join cruises and races, and meet at clubhouse 't Foksel by the municipal harbour with views of the old harbour, the botter yard and the lime kilns. The programme includes an opening cruise, the Snertrace and weekly summer evening races (ZAW), plus the long-distance Nek aan Nek race to Hoorn. Year-round clubhouse activities include bridge, a shanty choir and a painting group; on Saturdays members, donors and visiting sailors are welcome.
History
Today's Huizer Watersportvereniging grew from two important water sports and activity clubs in Huizen: Watersportvereniging Gooierhaven and Watersportvereniging AVOH (Activiteiten Vereniging Oude Haven). Both clubs have a long connection with Huizen's harbours and the Gooimeer. Their merger laid the foundation for the present association. According to the club website, Huizer Watersport Vereniging has existed since its founding in 1982 as a community of water sports enthusiasts at Huizen's Oude Haven. Today sailing and motorboating, cruises and races, and clubhouse life with bridge, shanty choir and painting shape the club.
