Huddinge Båtklubb
Huddinge Båtklubb (HB) is a volunteer boat club with its home harbour in Vårbyviken on eastern Lake Mälaren near Vårby. The club is deliberately not a marina for mere boat storage, but a living community where members greet each other on the jetty, take part in work evenings and night watches, and follow the international collision regulations. At the clubhouse on Hamnvägen 7 there are berths and yard spaces plus a slipway; boats may be at most 12 metres long, 3.99 metres wide and 8 tonnes. Membership requires at least the Swedish Förarintyg as proof of nautical competence; two information meetings for new members are held each year. A distinctive feature is the ambition for a toxin-free harbour and yard in the Östra Mälaren drinking-water protection area.
History
Huddinge Båtklubb runs its home harbour in Vårbyviken on eastern Lake Mälaren, an area that is also a drinking-water intake and therefore imposes special environmental duties. The club stresses voluntary membership with work evenings, night watch and friendly contact on the jetty, and distinguishes itself from a pure marina. Admission requires at least the Förarintyg as proof of nautical competence; family members are exempt. Berths and yard spaces are allocated by length of membership, boat dimensions and suitability; maximum boat length is 12 metres, beam 3.99 metres and weight 8 tonnes. Environmentally, HB aims for a toxin-free harbour and yard: only hard antifouling approved for inland waters and the Norrland coast, or unpainted hulls, are allowed; biocidal and soft polishing paints are not. Annual autumn meetings at the clubhouse decide among other things the year programme, budget and membership, entrance, berth and yard fees. Free Förarintyg courses have been offered for under-18 children of members; adult members can take the course for a fee.
