Hudiksvalls Sjösportsällskap
Hudiksvalls Sjösportsällskap (HSSS) is the official sailing and boating club in Hudiksvall on Sweden’s Baltic coast and continues the tradition of Hudiksvalls Segelsällskap, founded in 1876. The club was formed in 2004 by the merger of Hudiksvalls Segelsällskap and Hudiksvalls Motorbåtsklubb and operates harbour facilities with pontoons, a clubhouse and a yard at the inner harbour (Sjögatan 14). Members can apply for berths and yard places; guest berths, showers, laundry and a fuel station are available in the harbour. The programme includes work days, spring and autumn meetings and boating activities; youth development is a statutory aim. For the 150-year jubilee of sailing tradition in Hudiksvall, history and today’s boat life are presented to the public.
History
Hudiksvalls Sjösportsällskap (HSSS) has its roots in Hudiksvalls Motorbåtsklubb (HMK), founded in 1924, and Hudiksvalls Segelsällskap (HSS), founded in 1876. The merger took place on 28 February 2004; the new association’s formation date is recorded as 1 January 2004. The aim was to use shared boating infrastructure in Hudiksvall more efficiently and to better represent boating interests in society. The club’s seat and area of activity are in Hudiksvall. The city’s sailing tradition thus spans more than 150 years: Hudiksvalls Segelsällskap long formed part of local maritime life. For the jubilee, history and today’s active sailing and boating are made visible to residents and visitors. Today HSSS operates among other things the guest harbour in the inner harbour and guest pontoons at Käringön and Ravelgrund, and offers members berths and yard places at Reffelmansvarvet.
