History

Herslev Strand Sejlklub has shaped sailing life at Herslev Strand and on Roskilde Fjord in Skjoldungernes Land National Park since 1969. The club owns and runs Herslev Lystbådehavn with 95 berths between piles at four pontoons and about 20 smaller dinghy berths; maximum beam is 3.2 metres and water depth is 1.8 metres in both basins. Over the decades an active club life grew with racing and cruising, evening races, SingleHand club championships and the Sydfjordsstævne. The senior dinghy group Fjordens Helte built one of the world's largest OK Dinghy fleets with about thirty boats at home and the VM på Fjorden series. The youth section sails Optimist from age nine, provides club dinghies and organises summer camps and Isefjordkreds events. An adult sailing school offers practical training up to the proficiency test; clubhouse, Blue Flag beach, grill pavilion and winter bathing complete daily life. The club is run entirely by volunteers and belongs to the Frihavn guest-berth scheme. Recent milestones include the inauguration of Bro 2 in May 2026 and regular communal launch and work weekends.
