Heilbronner Segelsport-Club e.V.
The Heilbronner Segelsport-Club e.V. (HeiSC) is a sailing club founded in 1975 in the Unterland region, with its office in Bad Friedrichshall. Home waters are Lake Breitenauer See for open dinghies and the Neckar weir at Lauffen for cabin cruisers; members also sail larger yachts on Lake Constance and at sea. The club provides members with an extensive club fleet including Optimists, Lasers, Laser Vagos, Schwertzugvogel and Varianta 18, and operates a clubhouse and material shed at Lake Breitenauer See. Youth training, Thursday sport sailing, licence courses and numerous regattas shape club life. Since its foundation by 16 sailors, HeiSC has grown into a German Sailing Federation member club with around 220 members and hosted the Special Olympics state games sailing events in 2025.
History
In late summer 1974 the Heilbronner Stimme reported that a reservoir was to be built at the foot of the Löwenstein hills near Breitenauer Hof to prevent Sulm flooding and also serve recreation. This news mobilised sailors: Uli Wehner and Horst Sommer placed a newspaper advert to gather like-minded people. They met at the Inselhotel and resolved to hold a founding meeting of a sailing club on 22 January 1975. Sixteen sailors then founded the Heilbronner Segelsport-Club, abbreviated HeiSC. Because Lake Breitenauer See was not yet filled, the upper water of the Neckar weir at Lauffen temporarily served as a sailing area; this venue is still used today for cabin cruisers. Lake Breitenauer See became the club's dinghy venue. The club is a member of the German Sailing Federation (DSV registration BW098) and is registered at the Heilbronn district court under VR 1097. Today around 220 members belong to HeiSC. The programme covers open dinghies on Lake Breitenauer See, cabin cruisers on the Neckar and larger sailing yachts on Lake Constance and at sea. In 2025 the club hosted the sailing competitions of the Special Olympics Baden-Württemberg state games at Lake Breitenauer See and received the "Segeln im Ländle" award from the Baden-Württemberg sailing federation including 600 euros prize money. Also in 2025 the club celebrated its 50th anniversary. In June 2026 HeiSC received a donation from VR Bank Heilbronn Schwäbisch Hall under the "Ein Stück Heimat" funding campaign.
