Klub Żeglarski przy KWB „KONIN“ SA is a traditional sailing club based at its marina in Pątnów near Konin on Lake Pątnowskie in Greater Poland. The club operates its own harbour at ul. Ślesińska 42 with floating and shore berths, a slipway, mess facilities, sanitary rooms and charter boats, plus parking for members and guests. The programme includes regular club regattas such as the Winter Barbórka Regatta, the Commodore’s Cup and the season-opening races within the Grand Prix of the Konin Lakes, as well as sailing holidays on Lake Powidzkie. Founded around 1960 and celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2020, the club is a regional sailing hub and a public-benefit organisation (OPP).
History
Klub Żeglarski przy Kopalni Węgla Brunatnego „Konin“ was founded around 1960; on 18 September 2020 the club celebrated its 60th anniversary at the GLASPO premises. As early as 1968 Andrzej Pietrzyk launched the first nationwide Winter Barbórka Regatta on the non-freezing Lake Pątnowskie – used as cooling water for the Konin and Pątnów power plants – with entries including Finn and Flying Dutchman. After a long break the winter regatta was revived in 1998 together with Klub Żeglarski Energetyk and became a trademark of Polish sailing; the 13th edition won the 2007 „Błękitny Spinaker“ as best sailing event of the year. In the mid-1980s, for the club’s 25th anniversary, the idea of the nationwide shanty meeting „Złota Szekla“ was born; the first edition took place in March 1987 at the OSKARD miners’ culture house and later entered the PZŻ calendar. In 2020 Commodore Tomasz Piasecki and other members received honours from the Greater Poland voivodeship, the county and the city of Konin as well as the PZŻ 95th-anniversary medal. Today the club has about 71 members, continues to modernise its harbour and organises regattas, charter and shared boat work at the marina in Pątnów.
