Kärntner Yachtclub Klagenfurt
The Carinthian Yacht Club Klagenfurt (KYCK) has been one of the leading sailing clubs in Carinthia and Austria on Lake Wörthersee in Krumpendorf since 1928. The club combines ambitious regatta sailing with intensive youth development – from Optimists to Olympic classes such as 49er and 470er. At the club grounds with its own pier, terrace and boathouse facilities, traditional events such as the Bruno Neuber single-handed regatta, the 24-hour regatta and Friday races are held. In addition, the KYCK Foiling School offers regular training on Lake Wörthersee; wing foiling has been a fully supported part of club life since the 2026 season. Numerous world and European champions as well as Olympic competitors have sailed under the KYCK flag.
History
Sailing has been practised on Lake Wörthersee for more than 150 years; the Carinthian Yacht Club Klagenfurt (KYCK) was founded in 1928 and became one of the leading sailing clubs in Carinthia and Austria. Numerous world and European champions and Olympic sailors have competed under the KYCK flag – with successes in classes including 470er, Star, Tornado, Finn-Dinghy, Optimist, 420er, 49er and Surprise. The club is dedicated to regatta sailing and youth work; experienced members support juniors from Optimists through to Olympic classes. Traditional events shape club life: the club festival on the first Sunday in July, the Bruno Neuber memorial regatta held annually since 1991 in memory of member Bruno Neuber who died in a sailing accident in 1991, the traditional 24-hour regatta at the KYCK pier, and Friday races as a sporting end to the week. The club site in Krumpendorf on Strandweg offers a pier, terrace, clubhouse with canteen, indoor and outdoor berths and winter storage. Since the 2020s the KYCK has expanded into foiling: the KYCK Foiling School with WASZP training and, from the 2026 season, wing foiling as a new discipline fully supported by the club. A detailed chronicle was published in 2018 by Heyn Verlag under the title "SeenSucht Segelsport". Today the KYCK organises numerous regattas each year, maintains close ties with the Carinthian sailing scene and remains active both competitively and socially on Lake Wörthersee, alpine lakes, the Adriatic and at international events.
