Klub Sportowy „Spójnia-Warszawa”
Klub Sportowy Spójnia-Warszawa is a long-established multi-sport club in Warsaw with an active sailing section dating back to 1949 on Lake Zegrze. The regatta base is in Białobrzegi on Lake Zegrzyńskie; the club headquarters is at ul. Wybrzeże Gdyńskie 2 in Warsaw. The programme includes Optimist and ILCA sailing schools, racing groups in Optimist, ILCA and 420, plus club boats for juniors and competitive sailors. Children, youth and adults train year-round, with weekend sessions on the lake from April to October, winter fitness work and training camps abroad. With Olympic appearances and medals at world and European championships, Spójnia ranks among the major sailing centres in Mazovia.
History
The sailing section of Klub Sportowy Spójnia-Warszawa was founded in 1949 and has since been one of the largest sailing sections in Mazovia. Over decades the club has trained generations of sailors and offers sailing for children, youth and adults on Lake Zegrze. The overall club looks back on more than 70 years of sport history and lists 26 Olympians; the website refers to 75 years of club activity. Sailing athletes compete from local school regattas to medals at Polish, European and world championships in classes such as Laser 4.7, Laser Radial, Laser, Finn, Star and 470. Olympians include Dominik Życki in Star (Beijing 2008, London 2012), Tomasz Stańczyk and Tomasz Jakubiak in the 470 line (Athens 2004), and Ania Weinzieher in Laser Radial. Alongside Optimist, ILCA and 420 racing groups, the club maintains cabin-yacht racing and long-standing DN ice sailing with medals at Warsaw championships. Today Spójnia also runs table tennis, kayak/SUP, snowboard and bridge sections; youth sport training is co-financed among others by the City of Warsaw.
